A House Divided simulates the epic struggle of the American Civil War that was fought over the twin issues of slavery and states´ rights. The period from 1840 to 1861 saw these issues brought to a boil, and in 1861 the nation became tangled in a terrible war that lasted four long years. Classic wargame depicting the Civil War
Originally published by Game Designer's Workshop, this new edition retains all the best features of the original but with nicer components. Players have to use authentic grand strategies. Playing pieces represent forces of approximately division strength. One interesting touch is that troops start off as raw militia and increase in effectiveness as veterans and crack troops with battle experience. While a serious wargame that authentically recreates the strategies available to both sides, the game does not get bogged down in minute details and can be played to completion within an evening.

Good Starter wargame
If you want an introductory game to get you into wargaming this is a good choice. It's fast-paced with light rules (for a wargame) so you can focus on strategy rather than minutiae. Took me maybe 4 hours to play the first time and was a hoot.
