Pleasure ride
Less then a year ago I got Ripstick for myself (I'm 32) and for my son (he's 10). We both like it very much and have constant debates who's going to ride it.
A week ago we got Whiptide. As was expected it rides smoother, makes sharper turns, looks more sophisticated (especially black, which I got) and built better then Ripstick.
On the other hand it doesn't go faster then Ripstick (nor slower), you can not lift nose to go over cracks or on the sidewalk. For that reason you can not simply ride it from parking to home or to the store (I live in Brooklyn). It is big minus.
So, I'm going to stick with Ripstick in my car. But in the park my son and I are going to ride together Ripstick and Whiptide.
If I had to choose between them now, I would choose Ripstick to buy, it is more practical for me and there are more tricks you can do on it.

Call it a "midlife" crisis purchase, but I bought a WhipTide for my 40 birthday so I could skate board with my son. It took a couple of tries to get the hang of it, but now I love it. It's a great workout while you're having fun as well. I can't wait to get home from work to play for a bit before dinner. My son likes the WhipTide so much that I am going to order one for him as well. I first tried one of my son's rip sticks. The rip stick was initially easier to get started and "stay up" on, but once I got the balance of rhythm of the WhipTide, I like it much better. The WhipTide is easier to keep propelled on a flat surface and rides smoother than the rip stick. Though I'm not much into tricks, I think it would be easier for tricks as well because you can make a much sharper turn due to the difference in the way the boards are made.

I bought this for my husband for Christmas and he loves it! He said it's difficult to ride on the street (too bumpy) but great on the sidewalk. He's even been riding it around the tile in the house (setting a great example!) - it makes really sharp turns. I guess having four inline wheels is what sets it apart from some of the other carve boards. My husband said it's really fun, a great core workout and really gets his heart rate up. We highly recommend it!
